This document describes the syntax used by the Distributed Oceanographic Data System (DODS) to reference objects on the Internet. The syntax is based on the Uniform Resource Locator syntax used by the World Wide Web system designed at European Laboratory for Particle Physics. In addition to the syntax description, an overview of the use of resource locators by the main components of the system is given.
