Selecting which OPeNDAP server to install
Take a look at our complete list of available OPeNDAP servers. If your dataset is in one of these formats, you will want to use the corresponding OPeNDAP server.
If your dataset is not in one of these formats:
- OPeNDAP provides two servers which can support a wide range of
file formats, FreeForm and JGOFS.
- FreeForm reads a wide range of formats from simple
to complex.
- Data can be in ASCII or binary data formats.
- Requires a 'format description' file.
- JGOFS efficiently serves multifile, hierarchically
organized datasets, such as oceanographic in-situ or
station data.
- A 'default' access method is provided which can read collections of ASCII tabular datafiles and serve them as a single, cohesive data object.
- Requires description files for multifile datasets.
- JGOFS access methods may be customized to handle more complicated data storage formats.
- FreeForm reads a wide range of formats from simple
to complex.
- Both FreeForm and JGOFS require some additional effort by the data provider.
Next, you will want to download the software. See the next page for the steps involved.
