The ExCom makes the following recommendations with regard to regions:
- combining the Southeast region with the Gulf of
Mexico region, with 2/3 of the Southeast funds ($50k/year) plus
all of the Gulf of Mexico funds going to the new larger region. 1/3
of the remaining Southeast funds ($25k/year) would be set aside for
point aggregation,
- abandoning the Great Lakes region, with
$50k/year of the funds allocated for the Great Lakes region ($75k/year)
used to support continued development of the Java Core at OSU and
$25k/year to support maintenance of the Windows port at JPL,
- creating a new "mini" region in the Southwest
with funds originally allocated to MMS ($25K/year) - we should discuss
this with Abbott before going ahead with it.
- using $5k/year of funds originally set aside for
NODC to support meetings of the regions-NAVOCEANO-NODC plus Hawaiian and
Alaskan reps
