The two following GrADS commands request that GrADS calculate the five-day mean forecast anomaly for 500mb heights using a medium range model forecast and NCEP reanalysis:

Note that:

• the operations to be performed are encoded in the variable name,
  
  
• the processing is performed at the server site,
  
  
• the user need know nothing about the format of the data as stored, and
  
  
• the amount of data transferred is 5% of what would have been required to do the task locally.
